What does Dipl. ABT (NCCAOM) represent?

Diplomate in Asian Body Therapy (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) is a title given to someone who has completed an approved Asian bodywork program (500 hours) and has met the requirements to become an AOBTA practitioner, and has then taken and passed an exam given by the NCCAOM.

Who is a Jin Shin Do® acupressurist?

A Jin Shin Do® acupressurist is a person who has taken the 500 hour program and is a registered practitioner. The Jin Shin Do® Acupressure curriculum is approved by the AOBTA (American Organization of Body Therapies of Asia).

How long are acupressure treatment sessions?

Treatment times vary depending on the client's condition and the practitioner; generally sessions are up to fifty minutes in length.

What happens during an acupressure treatment session?

After evaluating the client, an appropriate acupressure session is performed on a treatment table with the client clothed and lying supine generally. This position facilitates deep breathing for the client, which is essential for relaxing.

Can acupressure and physical therapy be combined in a treatment session?

Yes, acupressure is a technique, just like myofascial release and strain/ counterstrain , and is easily combined with therapeutic exercise and postural retraining.

Do I need a doctor's referral for acupressure to bring to my therapy session?

Usually the doctor will write a prescription for physical therapy with a note for how many sessions. Generally they do not write a prescription for a specific technique (acupressure/ myofascial release/ strain-counterstrain).
